One Hundred Years of Solitude
A classic, I felt like tackling a complicated read. And it certainly was.
I struggled with the incredible story of the Buendia at first, but little by little I was drawn in by the magical realism and stopped asking what was true, what was real, what was exaggerated. I had to reread a few sections because characters with almost identical names kept appearing and disappearing, and whenever I lost focus I lost a lot of context, since the pages are dense with events.
In the end, I was very impressed by how the story closes and the way time keeps circling back. And by how it connects to the nation’s tragic history. It is all circular, all magically coherent. A very good read. Difficult, but it left me with a good feeling.
